Dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) is a specialized x-ray machine used when regular dental or facial x-rays are insufficient. It generates 3D images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerves, and bone in a single scan, allowing for more precise treatment planning. Cone beam CT uses a cone-shaped x-ray beam to capture multiple views, producing high-quality images similar to conventional CT but with lower radiation exposure. It is particularly useful for evaluating diseases of the jaw, dentition, and facial bones, although it has limitations in assessing soft tissues compared to conventional CT.
